Approach

It is my belief that human beings are both wonderfully unique and mercifully similar to one another.  We are connected to each other in our individuality through the common strands of what it means to be a person trying to live our best lives in a world full of uncertainty, pain, beauty, and love.  My approach to counseling reflects the uniqueness of each person’s individual life story, sociocultural context, trauma, and inner resources, while also tapping into the wisdom of our shared human condition and the immense power of relationships and community.  I strive to strike a balance between the uniqueness of self and the commonality of humankind through an organic, authentic approach that draws on evidence-based practices and tools while bearing in mind that any tool or idea only really works if it works for you.

A core foundation of my approach is the belief that you are the expert on yourself.  I will approach you with compassion, curiosity, and some expertise of my own, but healing and growth will ultimately come from within you and the relationships in your life.  Counseling in my view is about coming to understand ourselves more wholly and with less judgment in order to live our lives with greater authenticity and love.  I believe that every challenge is made more manageable when faced alongside someone else.  It would be my honor to stand with you as you transform whatever is weighing you down into the steps leading to a better life.

I operate from a perspective that is underpinned by the existential-humanistic approach; emphasizing authenticity, freedom, and your individual power.  I pull techniques and ideas from attachment theory and the related practice of Emotionally-Focused Therapy, as well as from Contextual Therapy, Internal Family Systems, and Solution-Focused Therapy.  All techniques are employed collaboratively and with respect for your social location and personal history.

Fees

I charge the following fees for my services:

  • 30 min. initial consultation: Free of charge
  • 50 min. individual session: $120
  • 50 min. partners session: $135

I offer a limited number of sliding-scale spaces based on financial need. I currently accept cash, check, and debit/credit card. Payment is due at the end of each session. In the event you need to cancel your appointment, a 24-hour notice is required to avoid being charged for the session.

I do not accept insurance; however, we are set up to take FSA/HSA cards.

The most powerful tool in therapy is the relationship built by our therapists and their clients. That’s why we offer a free 30-minute consultation to determine if we’d be a good fit.
