Live True Counseling is a group psychotherapy practice located in the heart of Portland, Oregon. We are deeply committed to the Existential-Humanistic perspective, and we believe in the freedom and flexibility to approach our work in ways that resonate with us, while also supporting the collective needs of our team. We are a dynamic, fun, and collaborative team that values working, learning, and growing together.

Therapist Position Description

Role Summary: As a therapist at Live True Counseling, you will be a beacon of our existential-humanistic philosophy, providing psychotherapy services that honor and respect the unique experiences of our clients. You may work with individuals, couples, polyamorous or consensually non-monogamous relationships, and groups, focusing with a humanistic perspective. We provide clinical supervision and training in the existential-humanistic approach to all our therapists. Reporting to: Ryan Brown, Chairing Practice Operations & Partner

Responsibilities:

  • Provide in-person and/or telehealth psychotherapy services to clients of Live True Counseling, adhering to company policies and maintaining a weekly caseload of 20 - 25 sessions. We will support you with referrals as you build your caseload.
  • Hold a valid license or registration and comply with all laws, rules, regulations, and ethical codes applicable to the services you provide.
  • Respond to clients’ requests for service within 24 business hours, whether made in person, by phone, voicemail, or through our website.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date client files, including intake notes, progress notes, contact notes, treatment plans, and other required documentation, completed in a timely manner.
  • Collect payments from clients for services provided, as we are a private-pay practice.
  • Attend staff meetings and trainings.
  • Conduct psychotherapy services professionally, enhancing the reputation of Live True Counseling, and collaborate respectfully with co-workers.
  • Show a passion for working with others, helping our team members grow and learn.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Hold a Master’s Degree or Doctoral Degree in counseling or social work.
  • Hold an active, unrestricted license (LPC, LMFT, LCSW, or PsyD) or pre-license (Professional Counselor Associate, Marriage and Family Therapist Associate, or CSWA) in the State of Oregon.
  • Be available to hold at least 20 client sessions per week.
  • Be organized, detail-oriented, and able to work independently on assigned tasks.
  • Have strong written and verbal communication skills and strong interpersonal skills.
  • Experience/competence working with LGBTQIA+ clients, and/or polyamorous clients is strongly preferred.

  • Do not feel curious or passionate about the existential-humanistic perspective.
  • Prefer not to work collaboratively and does not want to be part of a working community.
  • Plan to own your own business in the near future. If that’s you, awesome! But we’re not the place for you. We dedicate a lot of time to our teams, and provide the flexibility, autonomy and space to allow each member of our team to get creative in their role. The ideal person is invested in time and energy in Live True Counseling.
  • Do not enjoy helping or being-with others or working as part of a team.
